Tan Son Nhat International Airport Reviews (20)
I am a tourist from Chengdu, China. I went to HCMC for winter vacation 2017. My experience at SGN was pretty good. The airport was neat and clean and the customs officers were quite efficient. Good as my experience was, I’ve read in my local newspapers that some Chinese tourists are required to give money to the staff at SGN. Maybe I’m just lucky enough.
In 2014, taxi will cost around 100.000đ = US$5.00 to go to the center. If arrived and need a cab, turn right and go up to second floor by elevator for a faster cab. You don’t have to wait so long anymore. Taxi brands signed a contract with the airport so you won’t meet crab taxi anymore. Two famous brands are: Vinasun taxi and MaiLinh taxi.
Why is it the Vietnam Authorities take no action against corrupted custom officers despite so many complaints of corrruption in this website and allow corruption act to continue
Corrupted Security And Customs At SGN Airport
Every time I visited HCMC my worst fear were the customs and the security personnel at luggage screening room. They made our life difficult just because they wanted money from us, visitors. For no reasons our luggage being inspected and they demanded money in order to release the luggage. They threatened to keep our luggage if we don’t give them money. The airport management authorities did not do anything to stop corruption; what a shame.
Why Do They Hate Our Luggage?!
Me, my wife and friends go to wonderful Vietnam on holidays rather often, every time we arrive at this airport. The building is quite comfortable and modern, and the staff is always very friendly and polite. We appreciate everything except one unpleasant fact. Every time when we see our luggage after the flight, I want to cry: "Hey, do your loaders play football using our bags?!" There is an impression that the loaders do their best to destroy tourists’ luggage. For example, our last suitcase was broken, and the handle was just torn out. I have no intention to investigate, if airport loaders hate their job on the whole or just passengers’ bags and suitcases, I would like to let other people know. Remember: do not take your favourite bag or new bag if you’re going to arrive at this airport, otherwise you have great risk to get broken down (as your luggage indeed). I would highly recommend chief staff to search for a competent person able to establish order in this area of the airport. Our best regards to all other airport personnel.
Horrible Service And Corrupt Officials
What a shame! Vietnam is such a beautiful country but I may not return because of the people at the SGN airport:- 1. rude, uncivilized behavior toward us 2. officials looked for bribes and hassled us for how much money we have, despite us telling them that we’ve read their guidelines and have less than the specified amount. 3. I’ve been to many airports who welcome you upon arrival. At SGN, I wanted to flee the country before entering. It seems that this is an experience that many of my fellow travellers of Vietnamese descent endured. Please do not condone their behavior. They’re bullies. Write down their names and report them after safely leaving the country. Do not give them any bribe money, even if they ask!
Tan Son Nhat Custom Employee
After 35 years I finally decided to visit my motherland. I have heard many horrible stories from frequent travellers about Vietnam Customs giving you a hard time if you don’t give them money. Well, I have experienced both entering and leaving the country but the worst is exiting the country. All I had was my carry-on, a video camera and cell phone. A Custom officer asked if I have any money in my wallet or luggage? I said to myself none of your business. I can’t believe what I just heard!!! If this is a 1st world country, this employee will get fired. He checked my wallet all I have is $100cad. I told him that is all I have so he let me go. Now I’m back in Ho Chi Minh I really want to stand up to these bullies but I don’t want to miss my flight what should I do?
Worst Airport - Scammers
I hate visiting Vietnam because of all the BRIBERY that goes on when you arrive and leave Vietnam Ho Chi Ming Airport. Even though you have nothing for them to get you on they still want money! They need to reform the whole organization and get rid of all their custom and airport employees as this is a HORRIBLE PRACTICE for their tourism industry. I don’t care if they make me wait an hour on the side. I will not give them a single penny! STOP giving them money and we won’t have this problem – crazy people.
Next Time Pay Attention to the Worker
I arrived at the airport fine and dandy. However, the workers lack professionalism and common courtesy and kept on talking what they were doing after work that night. Worst. They criticized the incoming passenger appearance, their language skills and etc. "How can someone of Vietnamese origin not speak Vietnamese, what am embarrassment", she said that to herself assuming I didn’t understand a lick of Vietnamese. My briefcase was opened, checked, broken and 10% of the items went missing. I flew with Jeju air from Korea to Vietnam, the Korean worker treated me very well. The Vietnamese counterpart – oh dear, I want to throw my dirty shoes at them.
Clean And Neat Airport
I flew from Stockholm through Doha, Qatar to Saigon without any trouble. The airport is bold, clean and neat. Just enough, no more or no less. I travelled by myself to meet up my pal who came one day earlier than me and I didn’t have to pay someone at customs or bribe anyone to enter the country. One guy only asked me "how long are you going to stay", that’s it. Never enjoyed the duty free though but I flew domestic to Phu Quoc. Also, I liked the stuffed turtles and rolled, frozen snakes at the counters. Real treat, different from what I’m used to.
Beware Of Airport Customs Police
Lock Your Luggage
It has never happened to me until two days ago (6/08/11). When I got home, I found out that my 2 pairs of Nike shoes are gone. Sigh…the people who work at this airport, would steal, rob or strangle everybody as much as possible if they could. Now I know they would steal whatever on their sight. Come on! Used shoes, what are you going to do with them? I feel so disgust to find this out. So, people, if you go through this airport, please lock your luggage and pack your nice stuff out of their sight. This sucks.
Nicer Than Before
The airport is a decent one with the new terminal. For those who whine about having to hand out money to get in and out. STOP WHINING!!! They are nice enough to ask for your money. In India and Russia, they don’t ask you. They rob you. You don’t want to go back in the near future? Make it forever! We can live without whiners.
Watch out the taxi driver’s gross demand, if you arrive at night. A driver asked me US $20.00 for a trip to my hotel, in the center of the City. On my way back to the airport, a hotel employee arranged a taxi for me and cost only US $6.00
Come Ealy, Come Prepare $$$
I’m Vietnamese-American, just came back here on Feb 19/09. Have I been through Hell and come back? Yes. It’s that kind of feeling after I passed custom there without giving them some money. I had not have any problems in my enter since I put some money in my passport, but it’s totally opposite when I left without giving them some money. Guess what? They will only do this with Vietnamese.
An Emotion Of A Vietnamese-american At Tan Son Nhat
My nick name is TT, a Vietnamese-American, had come back to Vietnam for the Lunar New Year of 2009 and returned to the USA on Feb 04,2009. When I checked in my luggage (10 boxes of a group of 5 people), I was informed that mine needed to be double-checked; then was ordered to come into the scanned- room. My friends and I went in and the officer there asked my friends to leave the room and signaled me for money (I thought this practice long gone). To avoid hassle with opening and repackaging those boxes (most of them food) I gave him 300,000 VND; he looked at me and said that it’s too little compared to my stuffs. I was so angry and ashamed with "my people", but of course I cannot denied his request. After my "payment" was made, every thing was going smoothly. I got out of that room speechless and kept on wondering myself "is that policy applied only to Vietnamese-Americans or to all people who pass by Tan Son Nhat and want to get out of the airport with a peaceful mind?" What an international airport it is! I don’t think I will come back for another visit in the near future since I don’t want to experience the same thing again. I need time to forget and regain my pride and respect for my people and country. Poor my Vietnamese and Vietnam!
Tan Son Nhat - Sai Gon
Nice open airport. Customs were very efficient and all luggage arrived quickly. Far better than my experiences elsewhere. I’ts a great city now known as Ho Chi Minh; low expenses and great food.
Tan Son Nhat International
Saigon Airport by night
Hints and tips: try to be early at the immigration desks as it takes a long time to have your passport checked. On your flight you will get a ‘Arrival and Departure’ form. Please have it ready. After passing the customs you can have some money changed at the foreign exchange office. Take care you take a official taxi with a meter. It will cost at about 70.000 vnd to go to the center.

I’m a white English guy. I passed through Tan Son Nhat International a couple of times earlier this year. No problems at all. If anything, the customs officials seemed disinterested – they certainly didn’t give me any trouble. Luggage reclaim was quick (very quick), too! The airport was clean and felt very safe. A few armed security police visible. Staff generally very helpful and polite.
