Suvarnabhumi Airport Destinations Map
Gallery and Facts
Suvarnabhumi Airport, also known as (New) Bangkok International Airport, opened to serve full commercial services on September 2006. This airport can accommodate 45 million passengers per year, and handled 53 million passengers in 2012, which makes it the busiest airport in Thailand, and the sixth busiest airport in Asia. Its Passenger Building consists of 7 floors and 2 basements, and the airport has the world’s tallest free-standing control tower.
The airport’s name, Suvarnabhumi, means “Golden Land”, and was chosen by King Bhumibol Adulyadej. It refers to the golden kingdom mentioned in many ancient sources which the location has been the subject of many debates, although it’s believed that it’s located somewhere in Southeast Asia.

Nice
The departure is a paradise for shoppers.
Beautiful
Very beautiful airport. I visited it last year.
Beautiful Airport With Fair Facilities
The airport is nice and beautiful but it seems they need to improve the facilities in the airport. However, I’m happy with this airport! It’s a heaven for shoppers and there are so many lounges.
Nice Airport
Better than the former airport DMK. Nice
Nice For Shopping
Though the arrival hall is crowded, the departure is a paradise for shoppers. A wide variety of restaurants while waiting. Apparently, the airport has improved in terms of queuing at the security and the luggage delivery.
Huge
This airport is immensely huge! Thank goodness for walkalators. Shops are aplenty too but I heard there are scams victimizing foreigners shopping at King Power duty free. Queues in immigration and check-in counters are a breeze; at least the Thai know where their taxes go. I love this airport!

Very Nice Airport
I traveleed a lot and I have to say the new airport in Bangkok is one of the most nice airports in the world. Before cusomers there are very nice shops and restaurants and after check in you can find the most luxerous shops and restaurants you can imagne. You will not be bored on this airport. Than the check in works very quickly, no long rows like on other airports. Very clean toilets, something you almost never see in the normal airports. There are smoking rooms which are good separated from the rest of the building so that nobody has any problems of it. I think in most of the big cities there are not so nice shoping malls as there is on the airport in Bangkok. Schiphol, Charles de Gaule, Heatrow, Brussels, Berlin, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, … all these airports are boring places… But nothing of that in Bangkok… Just like Thailand as a country is always amazing, so the airport is… A real place to visit.
Upset Over Bangkok Airport
I was at the airport 2 hours before the departure time, with my husband and mum. We were on Thai-Air Asia flight back to Kuala Lumpur. Since the check-in counter was not yet opened, we had our lunch first. About 1 and half hour before departure time we were queuing up at the check in counter which obviously stated our flight number. There was a long long line ahead of us. WE WAITED and WAITED…People were packed to the brim of the counter ahead, we went ahead to ask why the line wasn’t moving, thinking there were some problems ahead but there were no staff at the counter. SO WE WAITED. When the screen finally changed to another flight, we immediately ran ahead to the counter and said we had been waiting since even before the counter closed. The counter staff were unfriendly, not helpful. They just said, you missed your flight. Please purchase the next flight. This is outrageous!! We had been queuing up blindly? When brought this up to the manager, she called her staff. Her staff said that the counter had been empty when the counter actually closed. Why didn’t we go up earlier to check in? Apparently we were supposed to know that Bangkok Airport doesn’t make any announcements. Check-in Counter closes when the screen changes to blue. How do you expect us to know that? We insisted that we were waiting behind the long line long long ahead of time. But the long line prevented us from moving. Is this our fault? We were forced to purchase a new ticket..which costs a bomb. I’m very upset at the airport system, at the manager who said, I’m sorry I have to believe my staff. She said the counter was empty and you didn’t come forward. I would say you were LATE to check in..( For goodness sake, please check your CCTV!! We were queuing up before 4pm! The check-in counter closed at 4:15pm) WE WERE ALREADY QUEUING UP BEHIND THE LONG LONG LINE OF PASSENGERS WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN STANDING THERE!!) It was NOT empty!!!! I really hope Bangkok Airport would improve their managerial staff’s skill in handling problems like this, improve your announcement system, improve your check in system. Don’t let passengers of other flights block the way for other RIGHTFUL passengers to check in. This really upset our stay when we initially thought Bangkok was one of the cities with the friendliest and hospitable people around. My impression of Bangkok have changed tremendously after this experience.
Nice Airport
A very nice and huge airport where you can spend your waiting hours browsing from shop to shop once you checked in…but a lot of walking must be done, though…:-p
Not Enough Seats & Indian Smoking
I used it the first time last Aug. The place is horribly shabby without sufficient seats at terminals. I even saw an Indian sneaked to smoke at the rear end of the terminal and thrashed the cigarette butts in that area. I called the airport operator just to hear her saying there was nothing she or the airport could do!? Indian plus incapable Thais will make the new airport down soonest.
Very Good
It’s the best; there’s no damage in the airport and airplane runs perfectly. but there’s a problem in the Exit because there’s too many TAXI’s and buses. There’s a lot of people there.
Well
It looks and functions like an airport but seems to be lacking character. Works well no real issues bit slow on the way in and out of the country but it’s got everthing you’d expect from an airport. I can’t complain to much as I’ve been to much worse.
Well. . .
The new BKK has it’s shortcomings. One huge terminal, that lacks rolling walkways, has too few toilets, is badly signed (sometimes with signs leading you the wrong way, in to cul de sacs, pointing right in to walls etc). The main departure/ arrival boards are constantly changing from Thai to English to Thai (makes them extremely difficult to read). Thai Airways ticket office was for some reason located at the far back of the hall, much more stylish, but why so remote? On the bright side: It’s a grand and beautiful airport. Give it some time and all problems are hopefully solved.
New Airport
It very beautiful and grand style.
Disaster Waiting To Happen
The airport is unsafe – cracks in the runways; cracks in the taxiways; 11 out of 51 jetways can’t be used due to the cracks; another 11 jetways are damaged – 2 seriously; The airport terminal building is sinking: **MANY FIRE EXITS WILL NOT OPEN BECAUSE THE DOORFRAMES HAVE SETTLED INTO THE DOORS** Danger* New bad news comes out everyday. The government has decided that DonMuang (an airport that WORKS) will be reopened. It will take YEARS to fix the problems at Suvarnabhumi – I predict it will be CLOSED soon – hopefully before a major accident/disaster. Other problems at Suvarnabhumi include: Lack of toilets (and those that are there weren’t designed for high-traffic location/use) Sinks poorly designed * bottom line: bathrooms stink; leaks; just awful Luggage carts – poorly designed, jam, causing injuries (reportedly cost over USD$1000 each!) Brand new airport, but many flights will use BUS GATES!!! Not enough capacity. Poor signage. An easy to fix problem, but after 4+ months, nothing is fixed. Duty-free shopping monopoly (King Power) signed contract for 20-some thousand sq. meters of space, then, when airport was built, actually used 50% more than that, taking out moving walkways and taking space that needs to be open for free-flow of people. Inadequate space in arrivals area Inadequate space in check-in Take a look at the floor tiles: many damaged/cracked, and DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY – it looks like a floor in the 90-year old airport, not a new airport Inadequate air-conditioning – upper levels are sweltering; related to design that is not suited to the tropical environment airport is located in Glass walls of terminal building cracking due to the settling of the building into the swampland it was built on Massive corruption…..And we don’t even know the half of it….
Too Big?
Great !
Fantastic and futuristic Airport. Lot more seating within the terminal, especially at the gates will be most welcome. Transfer desks at level 3 needs a face-lift (hope it is on plans, but delayed). Great piece of architecture.
New Bangkok Airport
I was on one of the first flights to arrive here on the opening day and spent the morning at the airport waiting for a colleague to arrive on a delayed flight. The airport is very big but still not big enough! By 11am there were no available seats in the entire airport – anywhere! After standing at one of the arrival gates for 3 hours in impossible people traffic I gave up and went ahead to my hotel. There were no notifications at the arrivals areas about which arrival point any of the arriving flights will come into – so even if I had waited I had a 1 in 3 chance of waiting at the correct arrival point! The Limo services were the best I have tried in S E Asia. A long line of 50 or more people waiting was cleared in less than 5 minutes. When I returned to the airport a few days later I arrived early and found the food court to be very stressful – using a coupon system that can be difficult to manage for 5 people in Thai Baht. The "food court" was covered in flies – similar to an animal planet show where a carcass is filmed in African Savannah. Overall I got the impression that the airport was rushed into opening – and that is exactly what had happened! Contruction was still going on in places and many shops were still moving in. 3 out of five for now but maybe next time it will be better.
Too Big
Compared to Don Muang, the new BKK is far too big and when in transit, you gotta walk all the way alongside, climb up ths stairs and get back all the way depending on your gate… Besides, for the business travellers, the Thai lounge in Don Muang were much more intimate, had showers, had complimentary massages, had much more newspapers and in other languages than Thai. Let’s hope they’ll get over the fact they have a new home.
BKK
It is a superb airport!
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
It’s such a big and beautiful airport!
Golf?!
It was pretty funny to see people playing golf in between a taxi-way and a runway. Strange, but true!
Cool & huge aircraft hangar & much free space.
