Wee Tips From A Scottish Traveller. . .
Grenoble-isere Airport
An excellent airport, with car parking near the terminal, a lot of European destinations operated by low cost airlines, a duty free, some shops (a bit expensive) and a new terminal for the arrivals within a few months. There is a bus and taxi service at the airport. But the reason why I don’t add a star is that the airport is located a bit far from Grenoble or Lyon (30 minutes and 50 minutes from the airport).
Grenoble Airport
An excellent new facility with cheap very close car parking. Not many services as yet, but if you have to go to south east France, I recommend it. Bus service to Lyon and Grenoble.
I’ve been through this airport a few times now, and here is what I’ve found:- To get there—from Grenoble takes around 45mins…maybe a little quicker if you’re used to driving in France. Check in—I’ve never experienced any queues here. The airport is very small, and can only deal with about 3 flights at any one time, so don’t worry about getting there too early to check in. Security—Pretty strict compared to UK security. Passport control often ask you to confirm addresses and date of birth on your passport, don’t be offended, just what they do…only more so than other places. Departure Lounge—If you do get there early…bring a book, nothing to entertain you here…a vending machine for bottled water and an overpriced shop…thats it. Busses—Busses run to and from the airport into Grenoble. The times correspond with the flight times. Usually at least 3 busses at first, followed by a couple more half an hour later…if you miss the first two…don’t panic. These typically cost 4-6 euro for a single…but I’ve paid 10 before so prices can change. Busses run from the central bus station to airport. Hope this helps!
